About the documentary

Memory.
Mars Mira.
Bosnia.

We had the honour of making a documentary about Srebrenica.

We had the honor of making a documentary about Srebrenica — a place with a rich history where the scars of the past are still visible daily. In 1995, the genocide in Srebrenica took place, and in memory of all 8,372 identified victims, a 100-kilometer pilgrimage, the Mars Mira, is held annually.

In this documentary, we captured the stories of those involved and participants in the march, providing an in-depth view of the impact of this march on the Bosnian population and the future of the region. Because these stories must not be forgotten.

In July 1995, during the Bosnian War, Bosnian Serb forces killed more than 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys in and around the town of Srebrenica — an act ruled by international courts to be genocide. It was the worst atrocity in Europe since the Second World War.

To date, 8,372 victims have been identified through DNA analysis. Every year, new remains are identified and buried at the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Centre. Survivors, families, and people from around the world gather annually to remember — and to walk the Mars Mira.

Mars Mira — The March of Peace
100 km

Every year, thousands of people walk 100 kilometers through the Bosnian mountains to reach Srebrenica — retracing the path that survivors and refugees fled in 1995. The Mars Mira (March of Peace) is a powerful act of remembrance and solidarity.

It brings together Bosnians, survivors, international participants, and young people from all over the world. Not to relive the trauma, but to honor the victims, hear the survivors, and commit to never again. SC Nowruz filmed the participants and their stories to share with the world.
